Jim Lee is well known to comic book fans for his excellent work in Batman and X-Men. Sony Online Entertainment announced that they've convinced him to join their team for their upcoming DC Comics MMO (the one that was part of the deal where Matrix Online got sold to SOE). I'm glad that Jim Lee is into the project, but my confidence in SOE isn't growing much.
Jim Lee will be the Executive Create Director for the title. Unlike many other creative resources that get added to games like this, Lee is actually a long-time gamer. He'll be focusing on gameplay just as much as the lore of the title.
SOE has already had questionable results with other rich franchises like Matrix Online and Star Wars. They haven't shown any recent signs that they know what they're doing now. I honestly would have rather had Jim Lee work on the rumored upcoming Marvel MMO. In my opinion he's the best guy to go to for X-Men information, and the X-series of books would most likely play a prominent role in the Marvel-based MMO.
Oh well, nothing to do now but see what happens. I'll be watching the progress of this one closely.
Kotaku has a great little post on the news
