Jim Lee joins SOE MMORPG team

Jim Lee is well known to comic book fans for his excellent work in Batman and X-Men. Sony Online Entertainment announced that they've convinced him to join their team for their upcoming DC Comics MMO (the one that was part of the deal where Matrix Online got sold to SOE). I'm glad that Jim Lee is into the project, but my confidence in SOE isn't growing much.

Stargate MMORPG news

Oh my, I leave for a little while and big Stargate news comes out! A few days ago Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment, the developer for upcoming Stargate Worlds MMORPG, held a media confernce call for news about how their game is coming along. Some of the new information includes the possibility of art assets from the TV shows being directly imported into the game.

ArenaNet is gearing up for its first update/addition to the Guild Wars franchise. Details are still a bit sparse, but the info released so far seems pretty interesting.

Star Trek Online gets a new designer

Perpetual Entertainment announced today that legendary artist Andrew Probert has joined the Star Trek Online team. Probert had great influence in designing a variety of ships for The Next Generation, including the main and battle bridges for the Enterprise D.

James Cameron's new MMO idea

Recently BusinessWeek had an exclusive interview with James Cameron. The director revealed plans to design a MMOG in tandem with the filming of his next film and have the game release before the movie. The current formula for releasing MMORPGs based on movies is obviously to release the movie first, then make the game. Cameron's approach goes against the conventional wisdom. I admire his vision, but I think he's wrong on this one.
